An Ode to Africa

This past Saturday, the Native African Student Organization hosted a fashion show. I had the opportunity to model in it and it was a great cultural experience. The show displayed the African culture through its wears and the models and designers that participate in the show were great as well. Such designers included Liz's Fashion, Asos's Fashion as well as other great designers. Here a re a few pics !! Enjoy

SCARF INSPIRED SHIRT

So this weekend was Halloween, and I was so not digging the whole getting an outfit thing and dressing up like a cartoon character or an animal lol. So I wanted to go to a party my close friend was throwing at a club and had absolutely nothing to wear. After searching endlessly, I came across my big colored scarf and decided that that would be my outfit!! So here it is my scarf inspired outfit!! And I must say I got a lot of compliments about it, that and my red lipstick :)

Day 5 of my Natural Hair

Ok so it's Wednesday and I have been rocking my natural hair since last Friday!! I think this is the best look I have gotten so far, besides my rod set that lasted like only 2 days !!!!

Back to the 80's

The vintage, 8o's style look is in now. And I am rocking it to the fullest. With inspiration from my father's glasses, I decided to order a pair of these old thin frame glasses and they rock!! Ebay is a goldmine fulled with treasures waiting for the average person to explore !!!

Gimme Gimme Gimme More !!

Skip Spring. Skip Summer. Let's just go to fall and winter shall we. Yes the weather may not be all that great, but it's the best time to flaunt your creativity and style!!! Long high knee boots, colored trenches and pea coats alongside with a variety of scarves and glasses. But let's go back to the boots. BOOTS are everything when it comes to the fall and winter seasons. They can make or break your outfit, make your outfit look dressy or just plain regular !! So far, I've invested in a lot of cute boots so far and I will only continue to do so. My fashion sense has no limit. I was recently on Bakers website ( a great shoe store) and came along some boots I absolutely must have before these seasons are over. These boots are trendy, unique and add a different flare to style. Just looking at them, I started picturing the outfits and compliments I would get as soon as I would rock them. So check them out! Bakers is a great show store, affordable and all the shoes range in between the price of $50- $100.

" I love my hair"

As a young black female, I can honestly say I feel pressured to conform to society's standards----- well sometimes. I'm very particular when it comes to my hair which is my I often rock sew-ins or braids. Why?? Because it's easy to maintain and looks nice. I cut all my hair off 2 years ago and since then have been growing out my hair natural. My hair is now longer than it was before I cut, healthier, very rich and thick. The only problem is, it's hard to maintain in its natural state, which is why I hardly ever wear it out. Why am I babbling about this? Well recently Sesame Street showed a video on their show about women embracing their hair. I watched the video and it really spoke to me. Many young women, kids and adults alike have let their hair define who they are which shouldn't be. The hair on our head doesn't make us, we make the hair!! So her's the video alongside with some pics !! enjoy and leave a comment the video is really cute and funny!!! "I love my hair" -Sesame Street

sorry about the pics...idk why it uploaded sideways -_-

WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?

As predicted. The dynasty has begun. Nicki Minaj has successfully dominated the rap world as the top female rapper as of yet. As for Drake well he still has a long ways to get there...maybe when Jay Z decides to retire O_0?

Bags, Bags, and More Bags

I admit. I am addicted to shopping...but I'm more addicted to purses. Handbags, Totes, clutches, whatever you want to call it, I love them. So imagine how happy I was when I discovered that people actually made purses  with African print. So, on my search for the perfect purse, I stumbled across a couple of websites that really took me by surprise. Most of the purses look great and would make the perfect accessory for that walk to class or that pop you're looking for when you are about to hit the club.

Here are some great websites I found:

A FASHIONISTA'S DREAM....COME TRUE

Ok. So I totally discovered this great website myasho.com that I can order clothes from that actually incorporates African themes. The name of the website is derived from the Yoruba language and when broken down “aṣo” means cloth and is pronounced “ash-awe”   Believe me, looking for a site that actually looked nice and had great clothes to offer was not an easy to task. This site is a fashionista's dream and many of their items are handcrafted and come in limited quantity which is why some of the prices are a little over the top. Some of the stuff they have on the site are very beautiful and the great thing about it is that they ship internationally. The best thing about it is that not only do they have clothes for women, they make clothes for men and children and offer other things such as household items such as African print pillows.

Feel free to check it out and see the beauty for yourself =)

MY VISION

I created this blog because I felt as if there were not enough blogs that were dedicated to the African culture when it comes to fashion.

My world revolves around fashion and I try to keep up with the hottest trends while making my own statement in the fashion world. There are a lot of African designers and African inspired styles that are under exposed. I hope to bring to light a lot of the hottest African fashion and trends out and how they can be incorporated all over the world. This blog is not only dedicated to African Fashion but fashion in general. In other words, it's a walk in my life and how I view everything from my perspective.

My opinions, my words, my thoughts......

I hope you enjoy the journey and feel free to contact me if you have any great suggestions or ideas you want to see on my blog.
